Results of the Fifth Collaboration: “New Perspectives on the Energy Business”

In our latest collaboration, the Future Influencers community tackled the question of which challenges and opportunities arise from the changing role of the U.S. in the energy sector. As in previous collaborations, we were honored to receive the support of our partners and mentors, the Harvard Business Review and the World Resources Institute, as well as the contributions from the Siemens Energy Sector.

After four weeks of brainstorming and the subsequent voting period, Daniel Recht’s idea “Saying goodbye to baseload” was selected as the Top Idea. Daniel was therefore named the first Future Influencer to represent our community at CERAWeek 2014 in Houston, Texas. Julian Marwitz and Brian Sergi also contributed significantly to our discussions. They joined Daniel in further developing the idea over the following weeks. The final concept was presented by a panel together with Siemens representatives and external experts. Future Influencers is an exclusive think tank. Our global community brings together future decision makers and thought leaders for exchange, dialogue and collaboration to create a more sustainable future. Community managers are selecting potential members by invitation and current members are welcome to recommend others. Future Influencers must be interested and engaged in sustainability topics and be visibly active in the social media sphere.

In the past few weeks I attended the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) summit in Washington, DC as part of my work for OCI and CERAWeek 2014 in Houston as the guest of Siemens through the Future Influencers program. Despite the different demographics of the two events, there was strong consensus between their attendees that energy in the US is in the midst of a period of profound transformation. This consensus, if it holds, may serve to accelerate change through renewed cooperati ... CONTINUE READING

A day at CERAWeek

In this post, I’ll highlight some of the highlights from the various speakers and panel sessions I attended. The day started out with the Siemens Future Influencers’ panel, which consisted of the 3 future influencers, the CEO of Siemens Energy, the Senior Vice President and head of Sustainability at IHS, and a professor from GMU. One topic we covered exten ... CONTINUE READING
